ALLENTOWN Janice Rae Schmitt (nee Waters), 84, of Allentown, died Monday, April 6, 2020, at RWJUH in Hamilton. Born in Trenton, she grew up in Hamilton and worked at Farmers Reliance in Trenton. After moving to Allentown, Janice worked for the Allentown - Upper Freehold School District but will be remembered most for the Candy Kitchen in Allentown, an old-fashioned soda shop that she and her husband owned and operated. Janice was a proud 50-year member and past-president of American Legion Post #31 Auxiliary in Hamilton, as well as the Mercer County Legion Auxiliary president. She was active in the Allentown Redbird Booster Club, the PTA, Women's Association of Allentown, and was a founding member and coordinator of D.A.C. (Does Anyone Care?). Daughter of the late Raymond and Catherine Waters, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 32 years, Frederick F. Schmitt. Janice leaves behind her devoted son, Todd F. Schmitt and his girlfriend, Tracy Warrington, of Point Pleasant; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard A. and Mary Ann Schmitt of South Bethany Beach, DE, Robert H. and Catherine A. Schmitt Sr. of Hamilton, and Catherine A. and Vernon Toppin of Addison, ME, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Janice R. Schmitt will be announced at a later date by the family and Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown. Interment will take place at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown.
